I raise my sheep in Manila, Utah and on the family ranch in McKinnon, Wyoming. My start in the sheep business began when I was 8 years old where I’d bought my first ewe from my dad, James Olsen. With the help of my Dad and uncles in Spanish Fork, I increased my herd so that I could sell my own rams. I continue to rely on the advice from my fellow sheepmen in the Ram Sale as well as out on the range. One of the things I learned from my Grandpa Charlie was that we should always be learning and improving. I incorporate that into the sheep each summer as I get ready to put the stud bucks in with the ewes, studying which rams will match up best with each ewe in order to continue to improve my lamb crop. I believe in producing a ram that is going to last out on the range, my ewes are summered on Wyoming range type ground on the family ranch so that’s where my genetics for longevity start but it also needs to transfer into the feed pen where lambs not only survive but thrive. I’m always trying to breed for fast growing lambs but also a range ram that lives out his investment. See you in October!
